from March 2022 to May 2023
PLAY! at ACAU
weekly meetings with creative workshops and lunch for Ukrainian families fleeing the war

context
this was the beginning of the PLAY! Berlin project. In March 2022, we came together as volunteers to launch weekly programs for Ukrainian children and their parents who had fled the war. This initiative was made possible with significant support from Uferstudios and the neue häute e. V collective
what we did
we tried to create a safe space where families could find mutual support during the challenges of relocation and adjustment, while also building new friendships
framework
every Saturday, we hosted 3- to 4-hour workshops offering activities like music, dance, crafts, and drawing. After each session, our volunteer team prepared a warm, shared meal
results
over 150 families took part in our meetings during this time, and we remain connected with many of them. With the support of more than 70 volunteers, many of whom now form the backbone of our team, this initiative has grown substantially
it was a challenging year that strengthened our team and helped us set new goals to meet the evolving needs of people with refugee experience in Berlin
