PLAY! goes Open-Air
urban neighborhood festivals at Uferstudios and in the courtyards of social housing sites in Berlin
context
these events brought together families with refugee experience from Ukraine, Russian families standing in solidarity with Ukraine, and guests from the local Wedding neighborhood. We invited artists and creative collectives to share practice, work together, dance, make music, play games and bake pies
what we did
we held four festivals at the Uferstudios site, each with from 60 to 120 participants from the Wedding neighborhood and other parts of Berlin. More than 15 artists and collectives contributed to the festival with workshops and activities
what it led to
experience of this project allowed us to venture into social housing for the first time and organize one-day festivals there. In July, we hosted an open-air festival at the Hotel Home&Care, a large accommodation center for Ukrainians close to Potsdamer Platz. In August, we engaged with the community of the Hellersdorf district
